On April 25, BYD Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “BYD”) released its first quarter financial report for 2025. Data shows that the company’s operating income in the first quarter reached 170.3 billion yuan, an increase of 36.35% over the same period last year; and the net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 9.15 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 100.38%, nearly doubling. At the same time, BYD’s new energy vehicle sales still maintain a high growth trend: 7 cars sold every minute! BYD’s new energy sales soared 59.8%! Further consolidated its leading position in the global new energy vehicle market.
BYD’s sales in March were 377,420 vehicles, of which overseas sales of passenger cars and pickups were 72,407 vehicles.
BYD’s strong revenue growth in the first quarter was mainly due to the continued popularity of the new energy vehicle market and the full play of the company’s vertical integration advantages in the industrial chain. The financial report shows that BYD’s revenue from automobiles and related products accounted for more than 80% in the first quarter, which has become the core of driving performance growth. BYD has five major brand matrices, namely Dynasty, Ocean, Denza, Fangchengbao and Yangwang, which fully cover all market segments from entry-level to luxury cars to meet the needs of different consumers.
In the first quarter, the sales of new energy vehicles reached 1,000,800 units, a year-on-year increase of 59.81%, and the monthly sales peak exceeded 377,400 units, which means that 7 new cars are sold every minute. This data not only set a new record for the quarterly sales of Chinese auto brands, but also surpassed the total sales of the four major joint venture brands of “South Volkswagen + South Toyota” in March for the first time, totaling 314,000 units, completely ending the more than 20-year dominance of joint venture automakers in the Chinese auto market.
Specifically, the Dynasty and Ocean series, as the basic sales volume, contributed more than 650,000 units. The sales of Qin LEV exceeded 10,000 units in the first month of its launch, becoming a new generation of “national god car”; with an average monthly sales of 9,600 units, the Denza D9 firmly occupies the top position in the MPV market, and the Yangwang U8 has established a foothold in the million-level market with an average monthly sales of 1,650 units, and its market share of hard-core off-road vehicles has exceeded 12%.
In recent years, BYD has continued to increase its R&D investment and actively promote technological innovation. Its core technologies such as blade batteries, DM-i super hybrid technology, and e-platform 3.0 have been continuously upgraded, which has significantly improved the competitiveness of its products. At the same time, through the layout of the entire industrial chain, BYD has effectively reduced production costs and thus improved its profitability. In addition, with the gradual decline of subsidies for new energy vehicles, BYD has gradually strengthened its product premium ability with its own technological advantages and brand influence, which has also promoted the improvement of profit margins.
On April 6, BYD participated in the 2025 Melbourne International Motor Show. In just two days, its booth attracted more than 40,000 visitors.
BYD, which occupies a leading position in the domestic market, is also actively expanding its overseas market. At present, BYD passenger cars have entered more than 70 countries and regions in the world, and have built production bases in Thailand, Brazil, Hungary and other places to achieve localized production. In the first quarter, BYD’s overseas sales continued to rise, especially in Southeast Asia, Europe, South America and other markets.
In view of the unexpected performance in the first quarter, BYD raised its annual sales target from 5 million to 5.5 million vehicles, of which the overseas market will account for more than 800,000 vehicles. To achieve this goal, the company plans to launch high-end models such as Yangwang U7 and Fangcheng Baobao 8 in the second half of the year, and accelerate the overseas expansion of commercial vehicles such as hybrid light trucks and heavy trucks. At the same time, it will also build 300 new stores in Europe and Southeast Asia, bringing the number of global service outlets to more than 2,000. In addition, the Hungarian plant is expected to be officially put into production in 2026, with an annual production capacity of 200,000 vehicles, mainly producing Denza and Yangwang brand models, directly targeting the high-end market of BBA.
At the financial report communication meeting, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu said: “The real benchmark is never satisfied with leading, but constantly redefining the track.” According to relevant news, the company will achieve mass production of the second-generation solid-state battery within the year, and its energy density will exceed 400Wh/kg, and it can last 1,200 kilometers after charging for 10 minutes. At the same time, the L3 level autonomous driving system has entered the road test stage and is planned to be installed on flagship models such as Yangwang U9 in 2026.
7 cars sold per minute! BYD’s new energy sales soared 59.8%! From the initial battery manufacturer to the current global new energy leader, BYD is using technology as a weapon and scale as a backing to open up a path to the top of the global value chain for the Chinese automobile industry in the wave of electrification and intelligence.
