New energy vehicles are cheap and smart, so why do so many people still choose to buy gasoline vehicles?

An economic account, three kinds of car pain, five real-life scenarios, understand the “stubborn survival rules” of fuel vehicles.

In 2025, when you walk into any 4S store, you will be bombarded with low prices for new energy vehicles: BYD Haibao 07 is reduced by 30% to only 102,800 yuan, and Xiaopeng MONAM03 is only 150,000 yuan with high-end intelligent driving. Not to mention the exemption of 17,000 yuan purchase tax, local charging subsidies, green license plate exemption from lottery… policy dividends come one after another.

Scrap old cars and replace new energy? The state directly subsidizes 20,000 yuan. But strangely, when the sales enthusiastically recommend the “money-saving artifact”, many people still quietly walk to the fuel car showroom.

1. Behind the account book: the money saved by new energy vehicles may have slipped away from other places

On the surface, the daily use cost of new energy vehicles can be called a “dimensionality reduction strike”:

The lowest electricity fee per 100 kilometers is only 4.5 yuan (home charging), which is 43 yuan less than that of oil vehicles, and 8,100 yuan can be saved for 15,000 kilometers per year

Maintenance is simple and cheap, with a total cost of about 3,000 yuan in 8 years, which is only 1/6 of that of oil vehicles

But savvy old drivers calculate the total account:

Insurance premiums are much higher: the premium of a 300,000 new energy vehicle is close to 7,000 yuan, comparable to a 500,000 fuel vehicle, and an average annual cost of 10%-20% more than that of a fuel vehicle

Tires are so expensive: 500 yuan for a fuel vehicle tire, 1,800 to 2,000 yuan for a special electric vehicle tire, and even 3,000 to 5,000 yuan for a high-end one.

Many “assassins” in maintenance: the overall stamping design may cause sky-high repair costs for small bumps, and the headlights and rear lights are integrated on the left and right, so if they are damaged, they must be replaced completely.

2. Anxiety list: those “pain points” that new energy cannot solve

(1)Endurance anxiety: digital game vs real experience

Nominal 600km endurance, 120 mph high speed? 400km is good!

Winter is even more difficult: battery life is 30% off at -20℃, and car owners in the north have a deep understanding of this.

(2)Energy replenishment dilemma: 5 minutes vs half an hour

Gas stations are blooming everywhere, and full blood is restored in five minutes. Even the fastest electric car fast charging takes half an hour, and news of two-hour queues for charging at holiday service areas is staged every year. Self-driving on National Highway 318? The interval between charging piles along the way is still more than 200km, a nightmare for adventurers.

(3)Parking space problem: Is it harder to install a charging pile than to buy a car?

The property management of the old community vetoed it, and the success rate of charging pile installation was less than 30%. Who understands the embarrassment of new energy car owners who don’t have home charging to find a charging pile late at night?

3. Residual value knot: After five years of driving, which one is more valuable?

Although Tesla Model 3’s three-year value retention rate of 60% has surpassed Mercedes-Benz C-Class, new energy vehicles are still at a disadvantage as a whole:

Top brands are okay: Tesla and BYD Han EV can reach 50%-60%.

Non-top brands are miserable: three-year residual value is “halved” everywhere.

Battery attenuation shadow: replacement after more than 8 years/150,000 kilometers costs 30,000-60,000 yuan, and second-hand car dealers shake their heads when they see it.

Four, five major scenarios:

These people are born to be suitable for oil cars. After repeated market verification, five groups of people are wiser to choose oil cars:

(1)Long-distance self-driving madness: traveling across provinces all year round, and the charging network can’t keep up with your wheels.

(2)Northern cold tribe: in the morning of minus 20℃, don’t want to worry about the discount on battery life.

(3)No fixed parking space party: It is not easy to grab parking spaces in old communities, and installing piles is even more of a luxury.

(4)Must-change cars within 5 years: don’t want to be swept away by the depreciation storm.

(5)V8 sound control: The sentimental party that “the whistling of the motor cannot replace the roar of the engine”.
