BYD’s European headquarters is located in Hungary! On May 15, BYD (002594) announced that it would invest about 100 billion forints (about 2 billion yuan) in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, to establish its European corporate headquarters and R&D center.
On the same day, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Affairs said in Budapest that the government will provide 20 billion forints of support for this total investment of 100 billion forints. The new European headquarters and R&D center will create a total of 2,000 new jobs.
It is reported that BYD’s European headquarters is located in the 11th district of Budapest, adjacent to the Danube River, with the advantages of transportation hubs and industrial clusters. It carries three core functions: sales and after-sales, vehicle certification and testing, and localized model design and function development, and will create thousands of jobs.
In the field of R&D, BYD’s European headquarters will first focus on in-depth research on intelligent assisted driving technology and next-generation automotive electrification technology. In the future, BYD will conduct joint scientific research with at least three Hungarian universities, and work with local suppliers and enterprises to promote the upgrading of the new energy vehicle industry chain.
Relying on the mature automobile industry foundation of the world’s second largest electric vehicle producer, BYD’s cooperation with Hungary in the field of green travel began with the establishment of BYD’s Makrom electric bus factory in 2016. At the end of 2023, the cooperation was further deepened, and BYD announced the construction of its first European new energy passenger car production base in Hungary. The establishment of BYD’s European headquarters not only further strengthens the localization capabilities of products and services and deepens brand influence, but also is a model case of pragmatic cooperation between China and Europe under the “Belt and Road” initiative.
In 2024, BYD won the global new energy vehicle championship with sales of 4.27 million new energy vehicles. This year, while maintaining high-quality global development, BYD continued to break through in important European markets such as the UK and Italy, and sales continued to rise. Looking ahead, BYD will continue to deepen its European market layout, build an intelligent and green transportation ecology with local high-quality partners, and contribute to global energy transformation and sustainable development.
