Recently, BYD quietly launched a new mid-sized pure electric sedan, BYD e7. The new car has three configurations, with an official guide price range of 103,800-115,800 yuan and a limited-time discount price range of 98,800-110,800 yuan. Interestingly, there was neither a grand offline press conference nor a lively online live broadcast for this launch. BYD only announced the price and listing rights of this new car through some official channels. It was previously rumored that BYD e7 is a model designed specifically for the online car-hailing market, but the official has not made a clear statement on this statement. So, is this new model that has just been launched suitable for home use?
※ Overview of the new car:
BYD e7 is positioned as a mid-sized three-compartment sedan. In terms of appearance, it adopts a new design language officially called “upward aesthetic design”. The closed front face is matched with a narrow and long headlight group, showing a good recognition.
From the side of the car body, BYD e7 uses bright black multi-spoke wheels, and the door handles adopt the traditional style of mechanical structure. In terms of appearance and size, the length, width and height of BYD e7 are 4780/1900/1515mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2820mm.
At the rear of the vehicle, BYD e7 uses a through-type taillight group, which is officially called “double-wheel crescent-shaped taillight group”.
In terms of interior, BYD e7 uses a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, and is equipped with a smaller floating LCD instrument in front of the steering wheel. A 15.6-inch touch screen (medium/high-end models) is installed above the center console, which can meet basic car needs. In addition, in terms of configuration, BYD e7 uses an electronic hand-gear, and the high-end models also have a panoramic sunroof and electric sunshades, but fortunately, the DiLink100 intelligent car system, heat pump air conditioning and remote car control (open and close doors/open and close air conditioning/flash lights and horns) and other configurations are still standard for the whole series.
In terms of power configuration, all BYD e7 models are equipped with a single motor with a maximum power of 100 kilowatts; in terms of energy storage devices, two different capacity power batteries (Fudi brand) are provided, 48kWh and 57.6kWh, and the corresponding CLTC ranges are 450 kilometers and 520 kilometers respectively.
※ Is BYD e7 suitable for home use?
Before answering this question, let’s briefly sort out some of BYD’s models that have been launched for the operating market.
In fact, BYD has a precedent for creating a model product specifically for the taxi/online car-hailing market. For example, the BYD e6 launched in the early years was used as a cruising taxi in many cities including Shenzhen.
In addition, models such as BYD e3, BYD D1 and BYD e9, which are positioned as medium and large cars, have basically considered the needs of the online car-hailing market at the beginning. However, these models were later gradually released and sold to individual users. Although not many family users buy them, there will still be a certain number of consumers who buy them as family cars. Therefore, BYD e7 is not BYD’s first model product mainly for the online car-hailing market.
Let’s go back to the original question. Is the newly launched BYD e7 suitable for home car users to buy and use? We can first look at the price and listing rights of this new car before drawing a conclusion. As mentioned earlier, the official guide price range of BYD e7 is 103,800-115,800 yuan, and the limited-time discount price range is 98,800-110,800 yuan (only users who complete the purchase and invoicing before May 30, 2025 can enjoy the limited-time listing price).
In terms of price, even if the limited-time listing discount price is not considered, the official guide price of 103,800-115,800 yuan is definitely relatively low for a pure electric model positioned as a mid-size car.
In addition, the official also launched multiple listing car purchase rights for BYD e7, including financial gifts, warranty gifts, smart connection gifts, charging gifts, and renewal gifts, especially policies such as “non-operating three-electric lifetime warranty (first owner)”, “lifetime free basic vehicle traffic”, and “free installation of charging piles within 2 years”, which fully consider the protection of the rights and interests of family users. It can be seen that from BYD’s perspective, when creating the new e7, the official did not limit it to the online car-hailing market segment, but simplified the configuration of the vehicle to a certain extent based on the car-hailing needs of online car-hailing users on the premise of meeting the basic needs of family cars. As for why we say this, let’s explain it in detail next.

First of all, family car users have a strong demand for vehicle space. After all, when the whole family travels together, no one wants to sit in the car and squeeze. The length of BYD e7 is 4.78 meters, the width is 1.9 meters, the wheelbase is 2.82 meters and the height is more than 1.5 meters, which fully ensures that there is enough space for passengers in the car.
Secondly, BYD e7 does not pursue high horsepower and high performance in terms of power, but is based on the principle of economy and applicability. Although the maximum power of its motor is only 100 kilowatts, which is not considered excellent performance at present, it is more than enough to meet the demand of “enough”; and the lower motor power also helps to bring lower power consumption. Third, in terms of the endurance that pure electric car users are most concerned about, the entry-level model of BYD e7 has a range of 450 kilometers, and the range of the mid-/high-end models has reached 520 kilometers, which has reached the mainstream level of current household pure electric models.
However, it should be noted that as a product that takes into account both household use and the needs of the online car-hailing market, the overall configuration level of BYD e7 can only be said to be relatively average, especially there is no particularly outstanding highlight.
For example, only the high-end “520 Smart Edition” of BYD e7 will be equipped with front side airbags, front/rear head airbags, 360° panoramic images, openable panoramic sunroof, driver’s seat ventilation/heating and other functional configurations; and the official promise of “free installation of charging piles within 2 years” service is also limited to the version with a range of 520 kilometers, which means that family users, especially those who have a rigid demand for installing home charging piles, must at least choose the mid-range model, namely the “520 Smart Edition”.
However, as mentioned earlier in this article, all three configurations of BYD e7 are equipped with DiLink100 intelligent car system, heat pump air conditioning and remote car control (opening and closing doors/opening and closing air conditioning/flashing lights and honking horns) and other functional configurations. Even the entry-level model “450 Smart Edition” with the lowest configuration is also equipped with reversing images, rear parking radar, cruise control, external discharge, rear air outlets, etc. In short, the configuration upper limit of BYD e7 is not high, but fortunately the lower limit is not too low. Even if consumers choose the entry-level model, the daily car experience will not be too bad.
