A must-read for new energy vehicle owners! What are slow charging, fast charging, and super charging?缩略图

When people eat, some “chew slowly” and some “gulp down”. So when it comes to electric vehicle charging, electric vehicle charging piles can be mainly divided into three categories: slow charging, fast charging and super charging.

1. Slow charging/AC charging

▪ Power: 3.5kW-7kW (home charging pile) 11kW (requires 380V three-phase electricity)

▪ Speed: 5-10 hours to fully charge (suitable for overnight)

▪ Advantages: Peak and valley electricity, cheap electricity! Less damage to the battery, longer life~

▪ Disadvantages: Long charging time

2. Fast charging/DC charging

▪ Power: 60kW-180kW

▪ Speed: 80% charge in 30 minutes-1 hour

▪ Advantages: Widely popular, relatively cost-effective

▪ Disadvantages: Long-term use damages the battery, and the electricity fee is basically around 1.2 per kilowatt-hour.

3. Supercharge/DC charging

▪ Power: 240kW-600kW

▪ Speed: 80% charge in 10-20 minutes

▪ Black technology: 800V high-voltage platform

▪ Disadvantages: low penetration rate, relatively high price, few supported models

4. Megawatt flash charging/DC charging

▪ Power: 600kW-1000kW

▪ Speed: 5-10 minutes to fully charge

▪ Advantages: comparable to the speed of oil vehicle charging

▪ Disadvantages: new technology is less popular, high cost, and has requirements for vehicle models

5. Working principle of charging piles

▪ AC charging piles use AC power (AC) to charge. The AC power (AC) from the power supply network flows into the vehicle through the charging pile and charging gun in a controlled manner, but it is not converted. Only the AC/DC converter (i.e., on-board charger) installed in the vehicle can convert it into DC power and use it for battery charging. Therefore, AC charging piles do not need to be equipped with conversion electronic equipment, the charging speed is relatively slow, and the output power is 3.5kW, 7kW, 15kW, etc., which are generally used for daily charging and long-term parking charging.

▪AC (DC) charging piles are generally equipped with corresponding high-power electronic equipment to convert electrical energy from AC to DC, which can directly charge the battery of electric vehicles. At the same time, the output voltage and current have a wide adjustable range, so fast charging can be achieved, which is suitable for urgent charging or long-distance travel. Fast charging piles generally have specifications of 30kW, 60kW, 80kW, 120kW, 150kW, 180kW, etc., and are usually installed in gas stations, highway service areas and other places.

6. Real experience comparison

01 Slow charging: Set the valley power plug before going to bed, and wake up

Full charge

02 Fast charging: Go shopping in a mall️The battery is full, suitable for

temporary charging

03 Super charging: Drink a cup of milk tea☕️ in the highway service area,

The battery life is directly full!
