  How far can new energy vehicles go in the face of battery bottlenecks? Despite the challenges posed by battery bottlenecks, the development of new energy vehicles remains promising, and progress will not be halted by these constraints.

  New energy vehicle batteries do indeed face some issues. Lithium-ion batteries experience degradation and capacity loss over time, with many vehicles showing significant performance declines after three years of use. This results in high replacement, repair, and maintenance costs for users, becoming a key bottleneck constraining industry development.

  In terms of battery range, CATL’s newly released sodium-ion passenger vehicle battery achieves a range of 500 kilometres, addressing pain points such as reduced range in winter and slower charging speeds. Solid-state batteries, a research hotspot, offer high energy density, fast charging and discharging speeds, and enhanced safety, enabling longer ranges for new energy vehicles.

  In terms of battery maintenance and lifespan extension, new technologies have also emerged. A team led by Tian Boxu from the National University of Defense Technology has innovatively designed a system device for external lithium supply and intelligent injection in lithium-ion batteries. This system uses intelligent sensing modules to monitor changes in the concentration of active lithium ions in the battery electrolyte in real time, and relies on self-developed algorithms for intelligent judgment and prediction, enabling quantitative lithium supplementation without manual intervention.

  Given the battery bottleneck, how far can new energy vehicles go? Policies are also driving the development of new energy vehicle batteries. The government is promoting standardisation of the sodium-ion battery supply chain to reduce overall costs and facilitate the widespread adoption and application of battery technology.
