Recently, the wholesale sales list of new energy passenger vehicles in May 2025 was officially released. According to the comprehensive estimate of the data of the China Passenger Car Association, the wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicle manufacturers nationwide in May reached 1.24 million units, a year-on-year increase of 38% and a month-on-month increase of 9%. Let’s take a look at the sales performance of the top ten models~

NO.1 BYD’s wholesale volume in May: 376,930 units

BYD ranks first on the list, far ahead with a score of about 377,000 units, a year-on-year increase of about 14%. Its market share is close to 30%, showing strong market dominance.

At present, the cumulative sales from January to May reached 1.7634 million units, continuing to consolidate its leading position in the industry, but there is still a large gap from BYD’s annual target. If it is made up in the later stage, it is an important issue that BYD needs to consider.

At present, the main models such as Qin L and Seagull rely on the low fuel consumption and long endurance advantages of the fifth-generation DM technology to support the sales base. In the later stage, under the “smart driving equal rights” strategy, BYD’s models are expected to achieve further growth.

NO.2 Geely Automobile’s wholesale volume in May: 138,021 vehicles

Geely Automobile ranked second with 138,000 vehicles, a year-on-year surge of 135%. At present, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in Geely Group has risen to 59%.

From the perspective of specific models, the Galaxy series made outstanding contributions, with monthly sales exceeding 100,000 vehicles, Lynk & Co’s new energy accounted for 63%, and Zeekr’s sales increased by 38% month-on-month to 18,900 vehicles. The policy-driven and multi-brand synergy pushed its sales and share to new highs.

NO.3 Changan Automobile’s wholesale volume in May: 88,264 vehicles

Changan’s new energy vehicle wholesale sales in May reached 88,000 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of more than 60%.

Among them, the Qiyuan series contributed 36,600 vehicles, Deep Blue delivered 25,500 vehicles, and Avita sold 12,800 vehicles, forming a new energy trident product array, especially the high-end Avita brand. With the further increase in the number of models in the later period, Avita is expected to gradually enter the first echelon.

At present, new models such as UNI-K are also accelerating iterations, all of which help Changan surpass SAIC-GM-Wuling and Tesla for the first time and jump to the third place on the list.

NO.4 SAIC-GM-Wuling’s wholesale volume in May: 65,390 units

SAIC-GM-Wuling’s wholesale sales of new energy vehicles in May were 65,000 units, continuing to maintain a high growth rate.

The main model Hongguang MINIEV family continued to increase in volume, but due to the intensified competition in the A0-class market, the month-on-month growth rate slowed slightly. As Wuling gradually realizes the decentralization of intelligent driving technology, its models are expected to achieve steady growth in the later period. In addition, the accelerated layout of overseas markets can also provide it with new volume.

NO.5 Tesla China’s wholesale volume in May: 61,662 units

Tesla was affected by many factors. The wholesale volume in May was about 62,000 units, a year-on-year decline of 15%, and the ranking fell from the top three in the same period last year to fifth.

With the intensification of domestic competition among the same level of products, its main models Model Y/3 have experienced weak demand. Although a 5-year 0 interest policy has been launched to stimulate the market, the performance of the new models has not met expectations.

Tesla’s cumulative sales from January to May fell by 12.6%, which is contrary to the industry’s growth trend.

NO.6 Chery Automobile’s wholesale volume in May: 56,869 vehicles

Ranked fifth on the list is Chery Automobile, with wholesale sales of 56,869 vehicles. Chery currently has new energy brands such as Xingtu Xingjiyuan, Jietu, iCAR and Zhijie, which have maintained relatively stable growth in sales. Among them, the “square box” design of the iCAR series focuses on young consumer groups, while hybrid SUVs such as Fengyun T8 support the mid-range market.

NO.7 Leapmotor’s wholesale volume in May: 45,067 vehicles

Leapmotor continues to be the sales champion of new energy vehicle companies and has become one of the most outstanding brands in May, with sales reaching a record high of 45,067 vehicles. This growth mainly benefits from the strong pull of the country’s old-for-new policy, coupled with the cost-effectiveness of the main model C series.

Leapmotor continues to expand its market share by relying on its self-developed technology and expansion of downstream channels. Currently, its B series models are gradually being launched. At the same time, coupled with the growth of overseas exports in the later period, Leapmotor is expected to go further.

NO.8 Ideal Auto’s wholesale volume in May: 40,856 units

The wholesale volume of Ideal Auto in May reached 40,856 units, continuing the competitiveness of high-end family SUVs. At present, the performance of the L series is relatively stable. For Ideal, how to transition to the pure electric i series has become the primary consideration of the brand. At present, Ideal still maintains an advantage in the price range of more than 300,000 yuan. At the same time, with the upgrade of intelligent driving functions, the sales volume in the later period is also guaranteed.

NO.9 Seres Auto’s wholesale volume in May: 36,372 units

Seres’ wholesale sales in May reached 36,372 units, also ranking among the top new power brands. The Wenjie series contributed core growth, among which the Wenjie M9 delivered 15,481 units, winning the sales crown in the 500,000-level market for two consecutive years. The new model Wenjie M8 delivered 12,116 units in a single month, exceeding 5,000 units in a single week. With the continuous release of technology premium and channel synergy effect enabled by Huawei, Seres has gradually achieved scale climbing.

NO.10 Xpeng Motors’wholesale volume in May: 33,525 vehicles

Xpeng Motors achieved sales of 33,525 vehicles in May, ranking tenth on the list. After a series of channel and product matrix adjustments, Xpeng has achieved rebirth. With the hot sales of models such as Xpeng P7+ and Xpeng MONA M03, the overall sales of the brand have increased significantly. At the same time, there are more new cars in the later period, and it is expected to continue to replicate the successful path.
